Although the Bank of England has assumed the primary role for issuing banknotes in the United Kingdom, some banks retain the right to issue their own notes. Clydesdale Bank continues to print its own banknotes, along with the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Bank of Scotland. Bank-issued notes are legal tender and are in Pound Sterling.
